In an exciting leap for Indian tourism, the Gujarat government, in partnership with Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), is taking the lead in launching the country's inaugural submarine tourism endeavor.

Gujarat to Introduce India's First Underwater Tourism in Dwarka

The Gujarat state government is gearing up to unveil the nation's first-ever submarine tourism experience, thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gujarat Government and Mazgaon Dockyard Limited (MDL). This groundbreaking initiative aims to offer tourists a unique opportunity to explore the captivating underwater world, highlighting the diverse marine wonders around Bet Dwarka—an enchanting island situated off the coast of Dwarka, a city steeped in association with Lord Krishna.

This landmark venture draws parallels to the famed Titanic submersible expedition, notorious for a recent vessel implosion in the Atlantic Ocean. Set to be operational before Diwali 2024, the project focuses on delving into the marine life surrounding Bet Dwarka.

Tourists will have an unprecedented chance to descend approximately 100 meters below the sea's surface in a specially designed submarine, providing a firsthand encounter with the marine life encircling the island, believed to be home to a submerged city created by Lord Krishna.

The planned submarine, weighing around 35 tonnes, is designed to accommodate 30 passengers at a time. The underwater journey promises breathtaking views at the depth of 100 meters below sea level.

Featuring two rows with seating for 24 passengers, each with a window view, the vessel will be piloted by two experienced submariners and a professional crew. The seating arrangement ensures that everyone enjoys the best underwater views. Anticipated benefits of this groundbreaking project include increased employment, investment, and tourism in the region.

Official reports suggest that a formal announcement regarding this unique venture is expected at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. Saurabh Pardhi, the Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism, believes that this project will significantly boost tourism in Dwarka, known for its religious significance and the revered Dwarkadhish Temple, a prominent pilgrimage site for Hindus.
