China Peak - Nainital

Located at an altitude of 2,615 meters, China Peak is the highest point in Nainital. It offers panoramic views of the town, the lake, and the surrounding mountains. The trek to China Peak is a moderate level trek, which takes around 2-3 hours to complete. The best time to undertake this trek is during the summer months, from April to June, when the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear.

About the Trek:

The trek begins from the famous Naina Devi Temple, which is located at the northern end of the Naini Lake. The trail is well-defined, and the initial climb is through a dense forest of oak, deodar, and rhododendron trees. The forest is home to a variety of birds and small animals, and one can often spot a barking deer or a Himalayan fox if lucky. The sound of the birds and the rustling of the leaves create a peaceful atmosphere, and the trek becomes more enjoyable as one progresses.

Me and my wife Hemagni spotted a rare Himalayan monal bird during the trek. The bird's colorful plumage and distinctive call made it a highlight of the trip.

After around an hour of walking, the trail opens up to a grassy meadow, which is a perfect spot for a small break. The meadow offers stunning views of the valley below and the mountains in the distance. You can take stunning portraits and landscape at this spot which helped us getting relaxed for while.

From here, the trail becomes steeper, and one has to navigate through a rocky terrain. However, the effort is worth it as the views keep getting better with every step.

Janki and Tapan's wife were amazed by the variety of wildflowers that bloomed along the trail. They took several photos of the vibrant flowers, which added to the natural beauty of the trek.

The view from China Peak is one of the best in Nainital, and one can spend hours admiring the beauty of nature.

Tapan challenged himself to climb a steep rock face near the summit of China Peak. With the encouragement of the group, he was able to reach the top and take in the stunning views from an even higher vantage point.
